Sleeping over the Water!

Updated: May 12, 2023

We had always wanted to go to #BoraBora but didn't know when it would happen! We made it happen for our 20th wedding anniversary! It was delayed a bit by covid but we made it!

For this trip, I leveraged a travel agent due to the cost and my lack of familiarity with the region. The travel agent suggested we split our week between two islands which is what we did. We chose #Morea (3 nights) and #BoraBora (4 nights) as our destinations. Our two requirements in choosing the resorts were to stay in an over water bungalow and it be all inclusive, which both locations provided. We decided not to sign up for any activities prior to arriving on the islands. We wanted to be relaxed in our approach and go with the flow a bit. Both locations had a concierge, so we were able to book activities once we got there and knew how much time we wanted to spend away from the resorts.

We flew into Tahiti but took a quick ferry over to Morea. The views as we crossed the causeway to the island of Morea were amazing! You truly felt like you were in paradise! The mountains on the island just rose up out of the ocean carpeted with lush green forest! The sun peeking out of the clouds creating a very tropical feeling!

#Morea - Over the reef bungalow @ #Manava

I wasn't sure what to expect with a overwater bungalow - I just knew I wanted to stay in one! I can honestly say I loved them! #Manava was a beautiful resort with all over water bungalows. Ours faced the Pacific Ocean and it was wonderful to wake up every morning and see the endless ocean in front of us. There was an infinity pool, beach area with paddle boarding and a spa on site. Our bungalow was directly over the reef. We could see the fish swimming from the floor window but the best part was the deck which led directly into the water. We could snorkel right from our patio!! It was amazing. During our stay, we had a private dinner on the beach (to celebrate our anniversary) and received massages at the spa. We took the time to tour the island which included a pineapple farm (they made liquor from the pineapple - of course I bought some, it was delicious!), learned a bit about the island and partook in some amazing views! I think the photos will give you a better idea of what we experienced!

Island Paradise - #BoraBora

When we left Morea, we thought it couldn't get any better than that but boy was we wrong! Bora Bora was everything we imagined and more! It was absolutely beautiful with turquoise water and soft sandy beaches. The resort was on the islet surrounding the island and our bungalow faced the island which was a short boat ride away. We were very impressed with the #LeBoraBora by #Pearlresorts! I fell in love with our bungalow, the property was beautiful, and the views were spectacular! See this quick video of the accommodations...

We decided to continue our wedding anniversary celebration by having a canoe breakfast. For this event, breakfast is delivered by canoe to your bungalow and then set up on the patio for you to enjoy. As the meal is being set up, we had the opportunity to get a ride in the canoe around the lagoon. It was an amazing experience!

We decided to do an island tour with snorkeling but due to rough weather, we only did the island tour. We stopped at several of the abandoned military installations which I didn't even realize the islands were used as military posts. They also have a large number of wild dogs running around the island, left over from when the soldiers went home after the war.

Our visit to Bora Bora included New Year's. For New Year's Eve, there was a 7-course meal that was included in the price of the stay. It was a prefix menu with entertainment throughout. I have to say it was good but LONG!!! They could have cut it in half and we would have been satisfied! Beach side fireworks and a show followed. It was well done. We enjoyed ourselves!

I have to say this was one of the best trips Tony and I have ever taken! We enjoyed both locations, had a chance to relax and just reconnect. We also had the pleasure of meeting a person that we became fast friends with - Wolfgang! One of the best parts about traveling is the people you meet along the way!!
